Begining of Fall

So it’s been downright chilly around these parts lately and I’m lovin it.  I’ve actually seen my first orange leaves.  This is a great weather time of year.

Check out these little monster all snuggled up under their blankets keeping warm.  Awwwwwwwe..

Cold outside warm under the blankets Nice and warm under toasty blankets

It has been warm during the day however.  Warm enough for some good tree and rock climbing!

October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came -
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band.
~George Cooper, “October’s Party”

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes. Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in flowers we more than gain in fruits. ~Samuel Butler

Everyone must take time to sit and watch the leaves turn. ~Elizabeth Lawrence

911 Reminders

On this past September 11th, there were several movies on about the 911 attacks.  I remember as each of these movies were released in the years following the attacks how much attention they received from the media.  There were negative and positive thoughts and some very emotional reviews.  I guess there is less of that at this point and we’ll have to live with these movies being on tv for the rest of our lives.  I’ve never watched any of them.  Gary however was somewhat fascinated by the movie about flight 93.  I couldn’t stay in the room.  I dont need reminders of that day.  It’s not that I feel that people shouldn’t remember.  Not at all.  But I don’t need reminders.  I remember it like it was yesterday.

However some of us would have been too young to remember much of the day at all.

The next day I was going through some of Gary’s schoolwork and found his writing pad.  The first story he had written in it this years was about his personal experience on 911.  He was 6 years old.  He told about not really caring or understanding about the attacks on that day “because I was only 6″.   He remembers it being on tv somewhat and remembers his mom being on the phone with me alot making sure I got home ok.  He remembers how much attention he received when she got home from work.

He also understands a bit more now because of the television reminders.

The movies are good.  They need to be broadcast.  I may never watch them, but generations to follow will and they’ll learn.
