Katherine pretended to be asleep the other day. We went along with it and let her. We also thought it would be a good idea to teach her a lesson. Of course being the good sport she usually is, she let us…..

I may have mentioned that I never remember my dreams. Well, I've been up since 4:30 this morning because a very bad dream woke me up. Think I'd remember it, huh? Anyway, no going back to sleep when you wake up and your heart is racing like you just did a 3 (or in my case, 9) minute mile. On the ride to her mothers house the other day, Katherine and I had a conversation about snakes and that they bite and squeeze and kill and do all kinds of nasty things. She doesn't like them very much. I told her that they eat rabbits and mice and other cute fuzzy things. Oh, she did not like this at all. If she saw a snake near a rabbit, she would "run and get the bunny and pick him up and save him and take him home to our house." Now, without getting into the whole food chain deal, I tried to tell her that snakes need to eat too, and maybe thats why God put mice to live in the same place as snakes and that maybe a hawk or eagle would eat the snake! "But if the snake wanted to live and eat the bunny, I would save the bunny and find the snake a…. a….. a……. a already dead bunny." Genius, isn't she? I saw a great t-shirt. It said, "Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder." Anyone have any good t-shirt or bumper sticker slogans to share? I'm adding the links of some sites of people that I check out and they always take the time to visit The Little Things and leave a comment. Whew, that's enough nonsense for 5 a.m. Time for another cup of coffee that was already set up and waiting for me.

Friends. How many is enough? No such thing. I recently helped a friend set up some computers in his new office. Well, he paid me for it as I deserved, but some people you’d be happy just taking a beer from. He’s a good guy and a businessman. If I hadn’t made friends with him I would never have had that opportunity and there’ll be more work from him down the road. The more people you know, the more you’ll learn and the more opportunities you’ll have whether it’s in business or something else.

I read an article about how stress produces these hormones that actually hampers memory and cognitive thinking. It’s a lot of medical mumbo jumbo, but adds to the long list of things that stress can do to you. Stress can’t be removed from our lives, but it can always be better dealt with.
When one of the kids is upset and crying over something, when they’re completely stressed out about what ever tiny or major thing, what do we tell them to do? Take deep breaths. It’s a stress relief practice that everyone should do. I’m bad in traffic. I hate traffic. No one “little” thing stresses me out like traffic. I stew, I clench, I grumble. Did I mention I hate traffic? Anyway, when I remember to tell myself to take deep breaths it helps every time. I’m not sure how it works, but it does. Dear, please don’t remind me to take deep breaths next time we’re in traffic together.
This site has a lot of tips on releiving stress. Almost all of the exercises there include a “deep breath.” Take a read. Find a technique that works well for you and keep it in your pocket next time you’re stuck in traffic.

Hot where you are? EESH! The east coast has been suffering through high heat and humidity for a couple of weeks now. I’m actually in a new office space now and the installers have not yet come in to hook up our AC. How’d you like to be me, huh? Close to 90 with humidity of about 80 and no AC. Just sitting at my desk getting a thick, moist breeze from the open window and feeling all oily. What’s better is that breeze is just stinky with exhaust fumes. If I don’t pass out from dehydration, I’ll probably get lung cancer. Poor east coast. Spring lasted about 3 days.
Katherine is feeling all better and had her first day of camp today. She went swimming and had a real good time. She’ll be with us tomorrow. Gary is at the pet store most of the week. He’s actually been a good helper lately and earned $2 today for helping price some items. On Thursday he’s going to Dorney Park with the Pelham Recreation Dept. We signed him up for it a month or two ago. He seems excited, but a little apprehensive about going so far on a bus without us being with him. Just one more step to independance. Sorry dear.
Well, that’s enough. Yankees won. Rest of the family is in bed. I’m off to walk the pooch and then crash myself. ‘night.
